iPhone 16 Launches in Indonesia on April 11

According to Apple’s official website, the company announced today that the iPhone 16 lineup—including iPhone 16 Pro, iPhone 16 Pro Max, iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, and iPhone 16e—will be available in the domestic market starting Friday, April 11, 2025, at select Apple Authorized Resellers.

“All models deliver smooth and fast performance with Apple silicon, innovative photo and video capabilities, and exceptional battery life, ensuring that all customers—whether new Apple users or those upgrading their devices—can benefit from the incredible innovations in this lineup,” Apple stated in a press release on Thursday (March 27, 2025), as quoted by antaranews.com.

iPhone 16 Gains Regulatory Approval in Indonesia

On Friday (March 21, 2025), Minister of Communication and Digital Meutya Hafid confirmed that the iPhone 16 series has obtained the required postel certification, indicating that the devices meet Indonesia’s technical standards and regulations.

Postel certification is mandatory for all devices that are manufactured, assembled, imported, used, and sold in Indonesia. The certification numbers for the iPhone 16 models are as follows:

  • iPhone 16 Pro Max (No. 108550/DJID/2025)
  • iPhone 16 Pro (No. 108552/DJID/2025)
  • iPhone 16 Plus (No. 108553/DJID/2025)
  • iPhone 16 (No. 108574/DJID/2025)
  • iPhone 16e (No. 108575/DJID/2025)

Meutya also noted that after obtaining postel certification, Apple must complete additional requirements before marketing the iPhone 16 series in Indonesia. These include obtaining the Import Product Registration Certificate (TPP) from the Ministry of Industry and registering the International Mobile Equipment Identity (IMEI) of their products.

Apple and Indonesian Govt Resolve Regulatory Dispute

Previously, the Indonesian government had banned the sale of iPhone 16 devices since October 2024 due to Apple’s failure to meet local component composition requirements.

Now, with postel certification from the Ministry of Communication and Digital in place, Apple is one step closer to officially selling the iPhone 16 in Indonesia. Both postel certification and Domestic Component Level (TKDN) approval from the Ministry of Industry are essential for smartphone vendors to legally sell their products in the country.

These requirements are outlined in Ministerial Regulation No. 16 of 2018 concerning Telecommunications Equipment Certification and Ministerial Regulation No. 11 of 2019 concerning TKDN for 4G/LTE Smartphones.

Apple and the Ministry of Industry previously reached several agreements, including the development of manufacturing plants and research centers in Indonesia. The two parties signed an agreement on Wednesday, February 26, 2025, marking the end of lengthy negotiations between Apple and the Indonesian government.
