JAKARTA — In his fourth cabinet reshuffle since taking office, Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto swore in six new officials on Monday, April 27, 2026.
The ceremony, held at the State Palace in Jakarta, aims to strengthen the government’s performance in strategic sectors including food security, environmental management, and public communication.
The appointments, formalized under several presidential decrees, involve a mix of new faces and returning officials assuming different roles.
New Faces New Mandates
At the forefront stands Jumhur Hidayat, once known for labor advocacy, now serving as both Minister of Environment and leader of the Environmental Control Agency. His first focus – waste management in Indonesia – is framed by a need to meet international benchmarks.
Progress hinges on revising current methods, though specifics remain outlined only in broad terms. From past efforts stem expectations, yet outcomes depend on consistent follow-through. While attention centers on policy shifts, real change may show slowly, layer by layer.
Hanif Faisol Nurofiq moves from Environment Minister to Deputy Coordinating Minister for Food. Tomorrow begins the work. Every part comes under review, along with the Free Nutritious Meal effort,” he stated, indicating a push toward faster progress on key national plans, especially the central school feeding initiative.
Now serving as Presidential Chief of Staff is Dudung Abdurachman, formerly an army general. Following his appointment, hours were set aside for continuous public access to state leadership.
Through him, citizens may now relay concerns at any time. A system once rigid begins showing signs of flexibility. His presence marks change, though quiet in announcement. Open channels emerge where silence stood before
Now heading the restructured Government Communication Agency (Bakom RI) is Muhammad Qodari, given responsibility for refining policy messaging to citizens. His predecessor has moved into a different role within the administrative framework.
Returning Officials and Shifting Strategies
Two officials return to the administration. Hasan Nasbi, formerly head of the Presidential Communication Office, is now the President’s Special Advisor for Communication, ensuring continuity in messaging strategy.
Abdul Kadir Karding, a former minister, resumes his role as Head of the Indonesian Quarantine Agency, pledging to tighten biosecurity without disrupting trade flows.
The reshuffle reflects President Prabowo’s effort to adjust his team amid shifting demands—refining rather than overhauling the structure. With backgrounds spanning defense, technical policy, and politics, the new appointees aim to improve coordination across food security, environmental oversight, and public communication.
The president expects these changes to bring greater stability and responsiveness to national development goals.
