China’s prestigious Travel+Leisure magazine has awarded Indonesia a top tourist distinction, naming the archipelago a “destination of choice”
The award was given during the 19th China Travel Awards ceremony in Shanghai.
“Indonesia’s selection as one of the best proves that Indonesian tourism standards are already highly recognized by foreign tourists” stated by Berlianto Situngkir, Consul General of Indonesia in Shanghai (1/5/2026).
Prestigious International Recognition
Indonesia was recognized alongside five other nations: Australia, the Maldives, South Africa, Thailand, and Turkey.
The award confirms that Indonesia’s tourism products and standards can compete at a higher international level.
In addition to the national award, Bali was also recognized as a favorite tourism region in the same event, having previously won a top destination award at the ceremony last year.
A Strong Signal to Global Travelers
This endorsement from a major Chinese media outlet is likely to convince more visitors from China — one of the largest outbound tourism markets in the world — to visit Indonesia.
It highlights Indonesia’s growing reputation for world-class travel experiences, from the cultural heart of Bali to the country’s many other diverse natural and cultural attractions, such as Komodo Island, Borobudur, and Raja Ampat.
The award serves as a powerful signal to global travelers that Indonesia is a premier destination worth exploring.
