Jakarta’s public transportation system has been ranked 15th best in the world in the Time Out 2026 survey.
The ranking was based on a 79.2% satisfaction rate among residents. Jakarta also placed second in Southeast Asia, behind Singapore, and ranked seventh in Asia overall.
The Time Out survey, which gathered responses from more than 24,000 residents across cities worldwide, measured public satisfaction with public transport services, including buses, rail systems, and other mass transit options. Ratings ranged from “good” to “very good.”
The results placed Jakarta ahead of several major global cities, including Riyadh, Hamburg, Amsterdam, and Oslo.
According to Jakarta Governor, Pramono Anung, the improvement reflects the growing integration of the capital’s public transportation network.
The integrated system now connects MRT Jakarta, LRT Jakarta, TransJakarta, Transjabodetabek, and Mikrotrans services, making it easier for commuters to switch between different modes of transport.
“Jakarta has now moved up from 17th place last year to become the world’s 15th-best city for public transportation,” Governor Pramono said in Cipayung, East Jakarta, on Monday (October 19, 2026).
Second in Southeast Asia, Seventh in Asia
In the 2026 public transportation rankings, Jakarta placed second in Southeast Asia behind Singapore, which ranked second globally.
At the Asian level, Jakarta secured seventh place, making public transportation one of the city’s highest-rated public services.
Pramono said efforts to strengthen transport integration will continue, particularly through the expansion of the Transjabodetabek network, which connects Jakarta with the surrounding cities of Bogor, Depok, Tangerang, and Bekasi.
Cyril Raoul Hakim, Special Staff to the Governor, said the recognition serves as motivation to further improve service quality.
“This improvement reflects residents’ satisfaction with increasingly integrated public transportation services. Under Governor Pramono Anung’s leadership, we remain committed to listening to public feedback so that mobility in Jakarta becomes more comfortable, safer, and more accessible for everyone,” Hakim explained.
