Student demonstrations in Jakarta continued on Monday, June 15, 2026, as groups from various universities once again took to the streets to voice their concerns. The rallies were spread across several key points in the capital.
At 9:00 a.m., the Student Executive Board of Bung Karno University staged a protest on South Medan Merdeka Street, Central Jakarta. Later, at 11:00 a.m., a coalition of students gathered in front of the House of Representatives Building in South Jakarta. Another protest followed at 1:00 p.m. on Kwitang Street, Central Jakarta.
Police Adjust Traffic Flow
Echoing earlier demonstrations over the weakening rupiah, rising fuel prices, and state budget use, students from West Java, Central Java, and North Sumatra also held parallel protests in their regions on the same day.
The demands voiced were consistent nationwide. The six points raised in Monday’s Jakarta protest include:
1 Temporarily halt and thoroughly evaluate the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) program and the Red and White Village Cooperative.
2 Review the Indonesian National Police Law.
3 End militarism and uphold civilian supremacy.
4 Take strategic measures to stabilize the rupiah and strengthen national economic resilience.
5 Guarantee inclusive, quality, and affordable education for all Indonesians.
6 Reconsider the fuel price hike that burdens the public.
To maintain order and safety, police deployed nearly 6,000 personnel. In Jakarta, forces came from the Metropolitan Police, Central Jakarta Police, and local precincts.
According to First Inspector Erlyn Sumantri, Head of Public Relations of the Central Jakarta Metro Police, officers are also preparing traffic adjustments around protest sites. These measures will be applied situationally, depending on crowd conditions.
