Sandiaga Uno, Indonesia’s Tourism and Creative Economy Minister, has inaugurated the construction project of the Tourism Creativity Center or PKDP in Lake Toba, next to the Toba Regent’s Office in North Sumatra, which is expected to help achieve the goal of creating 4.4-million new jobs by 2024, according to reporting by Tempo.
“This year, Toba Regency receives a special allocation fund. The construction project will kick-start on July 21 and we hope will finish this year,” Sandiaga said when attending KaTa Creative in Toba Regency on Wednesday, July 19, 2023.
Tempo say the Tourism Creativity Center will become a hub and an exhibition of creative economy products. “The government fulfills [people’s demand]. It is immediately constructed by using a special allocation fund which we hope will be ready when the 2024 F1 Power Boat comes and used as a showcase for creative economy products,” the minister said.
Sandiaga hoped PKDP can contribute around 15 to 20-percent of the target of 4.4-million job creations in 2024 and strengthen the ecosystem of the creative economy of Lake Toba, which has been earmarked as one of Indonesia’s super-priority destinations, report Tempo.
Sandiaga further hoped that various national and international events in Toba Regency would boost tourist visits that could improve people’s welfare.
Toba Regent Poltak Sitorus expressed his gratitude to Minister Sandiaga Uno for being present and directly inspecting Toba Regency. “We believe that since Bapak Sandiaga is present here, the creative economy will bring prosperity to the people. And we have also prioritized its development and tourism,” Poltak said.
