In efforts to promote the upcoming B20 Forum in Bali, the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KADIN) have been touring Europe from May 22 – June 4.
According to local news wires, the KADIN delegation was led by the General Chairperson of KADIN, Arsjad Rasjid and the Chairperson of the B20 Indonesia Organizer Shinta W. Kamdani.
The roadshow for the B20 Indonesia delegation began at the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos, Switzerland, on May 23, where Arsjad attended several meetings conveying the objectives of Indonesia’s G20 Presidency and the role of Indonesian businesses in the global economy.
Arsjad emphasized that the important mission that the Indonesian delegation brought on their visit to Europe was to promote Indonesia’s B20 and invite investors from Europe to attend the B20 Summit in November in Bali.
KADIN is also working to promote more bilateral trade and investment cooperation, explore new economic partnerships with European businesses and identify key partners for the Indonesian Trading House.
“In this annual WEF 2022 meeting, we use the momentum to promote the G20 and B20 Presidencies of Indonesia and also outline three priority areas of the Government of Indonesia for the G20 in 2022:
- Global Health Architecture,
- Digital Transformation, and
- Energy Transition
as well as discussing pressing economic issues due to geopolitical uncertainty and following the prolonged impact of the pandemic,” explained Arsjad in a written statement.
In this WEF forum, B20 Indonesia hosted the “B20 Indonesia Business and Investment Forum” at the Indonesian Pavilion which invited global CEOs to be involved and be present at the B20 Bali Summit. The panel discussion in the forum was opened by the CEO of Bakrie & Brothers Tbk, Chairman of the Advisory Board of KADIN, and member of the B20 International Advocacy Caucus, Anindya Novyan Bakrie.
Shinta said that after Switzerland, the tour will continue to the Netherlands, Belgium and Germany, which are known to be very developed economically and are the most promising partners among other European Union countries.
KADIN also held an honorary meeting with the European Commission’s Directorate General of Trade and Business Europe in Brussels, Belgium. In addition, to optimize the potential for trade and economic partnerships between the two parties, the Indonesia-EU Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement is currently being drafted.
“Although trade continues to increase, there are still many opportunities for cooperation between European and Indonesian companies that can be explored to bring benefits to the economies of both parties. This is the era of business diversification and creating a more resilient supply chain. KADIN is ready to bridge EU members to explore investment opportunities in Indonesia,” said Shinta.
Shinta also said that Indonesia and Europe collaborated in overcoming many global challenges, including the COVID-19 pandemic, climate change, green energy, and democratic development so that the G20 and B20 Presidencies of Indonesia can become the momentum to encourage more collaborations that were beneficial for the post-pandemic world recovery.
“For the Indonesian delegation, this visit is an important foundation for B20 Indonesia in expanding the participation of global business leaders to encourage the transformation of the world economy in the future,” said Shinta.
