Despite global economic turbulence triggered by various political conflicts, Indonesia’s tourism industry continues to perform positively.
From January to June 2026, the country welcomed 7.45 million international visitors, up 5.71% compared to the same period last year. Domestic tourism also remained strong, with 630.41 million trips, a 2.71% increase year‑on‑year.
“This reflects the growing demand for Indonesian tourism. We must seize this opportunity by offering destinations that are innovative, high‑quality, safe, and family‑friendly,” said Ni Luh Puspa, Indonesia’s Deputy Minister of Tourism, at the opening of the Fun Asia Expo 2026 in Central Jakarta on Wednesday, August 5.
Strengthening the Family Recreation Industry
The Deputy Minister also highlighted that family travel is one of the fastest‑growing segments, giving Indonesia a major opportunity to expand its recreation industry.
According to U.S. Family Travel Survey in 2025, interest in family vacations remains high, with theme parks and water parks ranking among the top choices.
These attractions are no longer seen as mere add‑ons to destinations; they have become decisive factors influencing tourists’ travel decisions, length of stay, and overall experience.
Recognizing this potential, the Ministry of Tourism continues to encourage investment, innovation, and the development of attractions tailored to each region’s unique strengths.
This effort requires close collaboration between government, businesses, investors, academics, associations, and local communities.
“In this context, the family recreation industry plays an increasingly strategic role. When we build theme parks and other attractions, we are not just creating destinations — we are creating shared spaces that enrich the quality of the travel experience,” Ni Luh Puspa explained.
Strengthening family recreation aligns with the government’s focus on quality tourism development. The aim is not only to boost visitor numbers but also to deliver meaningful, memorable experiences that generate added value for communities, businesses, and all stakeholders.
