Rumors of large‑scale demonstrations in Indonesia this August have prompted a response from security authorities.
Police and the military assured that national security remains stable and under control, urging the public not to be swayed by unverified information.
The statement came as public attention grew over heightened security measures, including fences installed around business districts, shopping centers, industrial zones, and vital national sites in Jakarta and other regions.
Officials clarified that fencing at certain malls is a management decision and not linked to any security threats.
“Data from the Daily Operational Reporting System (DORS) shows the security situation and public safety remain under control. There have been no significant incidents affecting national stability,” said Police Public Relations Division Head, Inspector General Johnny Eddizon Isir, Tuesday (August 4, 2026).
Preventive Measures in Place
Although conditions are considered conducive, police confirmed that personnel continue to implement layered preventive steps in strategic areas supporting economic activity.
All units are engaged in routine patrols, strengthened intelligence operations, early detection, protection of vital national facilities, cyber patrols, and coordination with stakeholders.
“The public should not feel worried. Police will keep working to safeguard security and ensure community activities run safely, orderly, and smoothly,” added Isir.
Separately, a video showing military tactical vehicles near the National Monument (Monas) in Central Jakarta sparked speculation.
Head of Armed Forces Information Center, Major General Muhammad Nas explained that claims the vehicles were deployed to anticipate demonstrations are false.
“That’s a preparation exercise for the ceremony to enliven the Independence Day of the Republic of Indonesia,” Don’t spread hoaxes, let alone provocation,” Nas emphasized.
Nas added the vehicles were part of routine preparations ahead of the 81st Independence Day anniversary.
Field checks confirmed no armored military vehicles were on standby; what appeared at the site were personnel transport trucks marked “Independence Day 81st Anniversary Commemoration Troops, 2026.”
