The Directorate General of Immigration officially launched a fast track visa service for foreign athletes who will compete in Indonesia on Monday (April 20). This policy aims to strengthen sports diplomacy and enhance national competitiveness.
With the fast track visa, administrative processes for non‑Indonesian athletes participating in sporting events in Indonesia can be carried out more quickly and efficiently.
Hendarsam Marantoko, Director General of Immigration, stated that this convenience is the technical realization of the government’s previously established Sport Visa program. The service is designed to make administrative procedures for foreign athletes far more efficient.
“This is immigration functioning as a facilitator. We simplify technical processes, create a fast track for athletes, and maintain good communication with federations,” said Hendarsam Marantoko at a press conference in Jakarta, Monday, April 20, 2026.
Attracting More International Events
Hendarsam explained the facilitator role of the Immigration Office is to streamline bureaucracy for athletes, while also maintaining intensive communication with various sports organizations.
A special team will be formed to handle the sports sector, ensuring that the administrative process becomes easier for athletes.
“The special team will consist of representatives from across technical directorates, from both the service and oversight sectors. So, while the goal is to simplify things, the oversight function will still be effective,” added Hendarsam.
He also explained that this step is to ensure that the Sport Visa service remains adaptive and efficient, meeting the needs of the ever‑evolving sports entertainment industry.
This strategic policy not only addresses document oversight but also serves as a supporting instrument for other strategic sectors. The fast track service is expected to attract more international sporting events to Indonesia.
Following the sports sector, the Directorate General of Immigration plans to expand similar facilities to the fields of performing arts as well as science and technology. This expansion aligns with the President Prabowo’s directive to advance key sectors by easing immigration document services.
