JAKARTA – The Indonesian Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs has stated that digital transformation is a vital foundation for achieving the national economic growth target of 8 percent by 2029.
This position aligns with Presidential Regulation Number 4 of 2026 on the Task Force for Accelerating Economic Growth.
Ali Murtopo Simbolon, the ministry’s Deputy for Trade and Digital Economy Coordination, highlighted that the regulation positions digital infrastructure—including data centers, artificial intelligence (AI), and cybersecurity—as fundamental pillars for reaching the target.
“Robust digital infrastructure—data centers, AI, and cybersecurity—is the foundation that will support sustainable economic growth for Indonesia,” said Ali Murtopo Simbolon, Deputy for Trade and Digital Economy Coordination
Strategic Pillars and National Forum
According to the government, three strategic pillars will drive national economic growth: accelerating data center development, expanding the AI ecosystem, and strengthening cyber resilience.
Aju Widia Sari, Director of Artificial Intelligence and New Technology Ecosystems at the Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs, stressed that collaboration among government, industry, and associations is the key to makingIndonesia an active player in the global digital ecosystem rather than merely a technology consumer.
A recent national forum titled “Indonesia Digital Leap: Accelerating Data Center, AI & Cybersecurity Ecosystems for National Economic Growth” gathered over 200 selected participants from industry leadership, regulators, and policymakers.
The event served to disseminate national policies, regulatory roadmaps, and investment priorities while producing concrete industry insights and policy recommendations.
