Starting April 10, 2026, the Directorate General of Immigration officially implemented a Work from Home/WFH policy every Friday for civil servants engaged in administrative and management support duties.
Director General of Immigration Hendarsam Marantoko underscored that the new policy is not simply about changing work routines, but about aligning government operations with broader efficiency goals. He stressed that while certain staff will work remotely, the delivery of immigration services remains the institution’s top priority.
“We ensure that immigration service operations will not be disrupted. WFH is intended for Civil Servants performing management support duties. Service officers or those conducting immigration supervision will continue to work as usual,” Hendarsam stated on Wednesday, April 8, 2026.
Civil servants who remain on duty every Friday include staff at immigration offices providing passport and residence permit services, officers stationed at international airports, seaports, and border crossings, as well as personnel in intelligence and immigration supervision units.
The Directorate General of Immigration has also mandated close monitoring of WFH effectiveness. Supervisors are required to oversee daily work outputs to ensure productivity remains consistent even when employees are not physically present in the office.
In his closing remarks, Hendarsam Marantoko reminded all immigration officials across Indonesia to uphold public service as their highest priority.
“The public interest is the top priority. I instruct all heads of regional offices, heads of immigration offices, and heads of immigration detention centers to directly monitor the field and ensure services continue to run quickly, transparently, and without interruption. The implementation of WFH must not diminish the quality of service we have built,” he concluded.
