Surabaya to Celebrate 730th Anniversary

The city of Surabaya, also known as the City of Heroes will celebrate its 730th anniversary on May 31, 2023, and a number of events have been lined up to make it an event to remember, according to reporting from Tempo.

Surabaya Mayor Eri Cahyadi said his side is ready to hold various events to welcome and enliven the Anniversary of Surabaya City (HJKS), starting from an MSME bazaar, cultural festivals, sports events to music concerts and entertainment shows.

“What is certain is that all activities to welcome HJKS are activities that can be directly experienced by the community,” Eri said in his statement, on Monday, May 1.

He also asked the community to be involved in enlivening the event. “The ultimate goal is to create mutual cooperation and harmony in society,” he said.

Series of Events

The series of HJKS events started on May 1. Here are the details:

  • Surabaya Shopping Festival throughout shopping malls in the city and Tjap Toenjoengan Night Market at Pakuwon City Mall from May 1-30.
  • Rujak Uleg Festival at Kembang Jepun or Wisata Kya-kya Surabaya on May 6. This event has been officially listed in the national tourism calendar of Karisma Event Nusantara 2023.
  • An award ceremony and Photo Exhibition by Indonesian Photo Journalists at Surabaya Square on May 12-18.
  • Night at the Museum at Tugu Pahlawan Surabaya on May 13-14.
  • Cooking show Masak Besar Bobon Santoso and Chef Arnold on May 17.
  • Surabaya Vaganza on May 27.
  • Pet Animals Day at Mangrove Medoakan Sawah on May 28.
  • Ruwatan and Wayang Performance at Tugu Pahlawan on May 31.
  • Surabaya Mayor’s Cup Volleyball Championship in East Java on May 21-27.
  • Surabaya Mayor’s Cup Rowing Championship in East Java on May 25-27.
  • Bromo Kom Challenge on May 27.
  • Recovery Ride Bromo Kom around the city on May 28. 
  • The Great Journey of Noah, which will be attended by Noah Band at the Westin Hotel Grand Ballroom on May 13.
  • Sudut Baya 2023 which will feature Mahalini, JKT48, Tiara Andini, Last Child, The Adams, Feel Koplo, and The Panturas at Kenjeran Park on May 13-14.
  • Dewa 19 a Night at the Orchestra which will feature Dewa 19, Ari Lasso, Virzha, Ello, Mulan Jameela, and Andien at Grand City Convex on May 19-20.
  • Nge-Jazz, Rek at Ciputra World Mall on May 27, and
  • Wandering Nang Tunjungan on Jalan Tunjungan Surabaya on May 28.

Eri hoped that residents can create activities that are beneficial for others with a sense of mutual cooperation and harmony and establish a Madani Village in their respective environments, say Tempo.

“God willing, with this Anniversary of Surabaya City, we should be able to provide happiness together and provide welfare to our brothers and sisters around us,” Eri concluded.

Andrzej is Co-owner/ Founder and Director of Seven Stones Indonesia. He was born in the UK to Polish parents and has been living in Indonesia for more than 33-years. Terje is from Norway and has been living in Indonesia for over 20-years. He first came to Indonesia as a child and after earning his degree in Business Administration from the University of Agder in Norway, he moved to Indonesia in 1993, where he has worked in leading positions in education and the fitness/ wellness industries all over Indonesia including Jakarta, Banjarmasin, Medan and Bali.

Ridwan Jasin Zachrie

Ridwan is one of Indonesia’s top executives with a long and illustrious career in the financial world. He holds several professional certifications including being a Certified Business Valuer (CBV) issued by the Australian Academy of Finance and Management; Broker-Dealer Representative (WPPE); and The Directorship Certification for Directors and Commissioners, issued by the Indonesian Institute of Commissioners and Directors.

His experience includes being the Managing Director at one of the top investment banking groups in the region, the Recapital Group, the CFO at State-owned enterprises in fishery industry and the CEO at Tanri Abeng & Son Holding. He’s also been an Independent Commissioner in several Financial Service companies and on the Audit and Risk Committee at Bank BTPN Tbk, Berau Coal Energy Tbk, Aetra Air Jakarta as well as working for Citibank, Bank Mandiri and HSBC. His last position was as CFO at PT Citra Putra Mandiri – OSO Group.

Per Fredrik Ecker

Managing Director of Seven Stones Indonesia, Jakarta

Per is the Managing Director of the Seven Stones Indonesia (SSI) Jakarta office and has more than 25-years’ experience in Indonesia, China, and Western Europe. He previously worked in senior management positions with Q-Free ASA, Siemens AG, and other companies in the telecom sector. Over the last six years, he has been the Chairman of the Indonesia-Norway Business Council (INBC) and recently become elected to be on the board of EuroCham Indonesia.

His most recent experience is within Intelligent Transport Solutions (ITS), Telecom, and other sectors within the Indonesian market. He is today through his position in SSI and by representing Norway Connect, promoting Nordic and European companies that would like to explore business opportunities in the Indonesian market. He’s also playing an active role to help create the Nordic House concept in Jakarta that will provide an excellent platform for Nordic companies entering Indonesia, where they’ll find a community that can offer support with trusted information and affordable services to enter this market.
