According to reporting from Tempo, Indonesia’s Directorate General of Air Transport at the Transportation Ministry officially opened direct flights with Garuda Indonesia for the Manado to Tokyo Narita, Japan route on March 1. The flight will use the Airbus A333 with a capacity of 250-seats.
Through a press statement, Putu Eka Cahyadi, Director of Air Transportation said that “we are committed to supporting the potential development of the national tourism industry and improving the performance of the local tourism industry” adding that the new Manado to Tokyo flight will be available once a week, but the figure will be adjusted according to demand, say Tempo.
Putu also said that in June, Emirates Airlines will begin serving the Dubai – Denpasar route using the Airbus A380 with a capacity of 600-seats.
The hope is that the two direct flight routes will help revive tourism and develop local tourism potential, including hotel occupancies, so that business and employment opportunities become greater, thereby reviving the national economy.
