UK Grants IDR 136-Billion To Support Energy Transition

According to a recent article published in Solopos.com, the UK has donated £7.2-million (approx. IDR 136.39-billion) to support energy efficiency efforts in Indonesia.

The grant was contained in an agreement between the two countries through the Mentari Energy Efficiency program which was approved by the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Arifin Tasrif and British Ambassador to Indonesia Owen Jenkins at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, Jakarta, Monday (28/11/2022).

Director General of New, Renewable Energy and Energy Conservation of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, Dadan Kusdiana, said that the cooperation would accelerate energy transition efforts in the country.

Specifically, said Dadan, related to efficiency efforts in government buildings at the central and regional levels. “It will encourage an increase in energy use efficiency, for example through building management audits, energy monitoring in buildings,” Dadan said after the launch of the Minister of Energy Efficiency at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, Jakarta as reported by Bisnis.com, Monday (28/11/2022).

Dadan said the program would be effective for the next three years. He proposed that the relatively large grant could be allocated for energy monitoring and auditing of government buildings at the central and regional levels.

“7.2 million pounds is big, it  can be developed later. I propose to monitor energy use in government buildings,” he said. On the other hand, Owen is positive about the government’s commitment related to efforts to accelerate the energy transition after successfully holding the G20 Summit in Bali, mid-November 2022, report Solopos.Com

This commitment, said Owen, is reflected in the success of the Indonesian government in securing global funding through the Just Energy Transition Partnership or JETP. “I hope the program we launched today can become another partnership between the United Kingdom and Indonesia to carry out low emission initiatives that have been running since 2019,” he said.
