There’s been a bit of a buzz lately around Labuan Bajo in Flores, one of Indonesia’s new Super Priority Destinations and a magnet for savvy investors; a new airport managed by the same team that operates Changi Airport in Singapore; an increase in the fees to enter the Komodo National Park in an attempt to move towards more quality tourism; plans for a new geo-thermal power plant; and successfully hosting international meetings leading up to November’s G20 summit in Bali to name but a few.
The latest news coming from the office of President Jokowi is the inauguration of the Labuan Bajo Marina Area Arrangement and Warloka Waste Management System which was held at the Marina National Tourism Strategic Area (KSPN), Labuan Bajo, West Manggarai Regency, East Nusa Tenggara, on Thursday, July 21, 2022.
With the arrangement of the area, The President appealed to the entire community to pay attention to the little things that can attract tourists.
“First, friendly to tourists. This is very important, okay? Second, don’t litter because now Labuan Bajo is clean and beautiful. Don’t litter,” said the Head of State, who also requested that the area be maintained and maintained properly.
The President said that currently the government is continuing to make arrangements in all areas in order to achieve the welfare of the surrounding community. “Every month we work together to clean up so that this area is well-maintained and more beautiful from day to day. Because we still have work to build roads, widen roads so that the ultimate goal of structuring the entire existing area is the welfare of the people in NTT, especially in West Manggarai, more specifically in Labuan Bajo,” said the President.
Furthermore, the President is also aware of the big changes that have occurred around the Marina Labuan Bajo area compared to his visit in 2015. Currently, the President continued, the area can be used to display arts and cultural activities that can attract tourists.
“Now, arrangements are being made here, the results of which we have seen together tonight. This can be used for performing arts and cultural arts activities, which will attract more tourists to come to Labuan Bajo,” said the Head of State.
Also attending to accompany the President and Mrs. Iriana at the event were Cabinet Secretary Pramono Anung, Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno, Minister of Transportation Budi Karya Sumadi, Minister of Public Works and Public Housing Basuki Hadimuljono, Minister of Communication and Information Johnny G. Plate, NTT Governor Viktor Bungtilu Laiskodat, and West Manggarai Regent Edistasius Endi.
