Improve Infrastructure To Cope With Increasing Visitor Arrivals

Tribun Bali are reporting on the need to improve Bali’s transportation infrastructure in order to deal with the increasing number of visitor arrivals to the island, which they say is in line with President Joko Widodo’s instructions to develop tourism destinations.

“Development of transportation continues to be carried out both in the land, sea and air sectors. In the sea sector, the Ministry of Transportation has built three ports that connect the golden triangle area, namely Sanur Port in Sanur, Sampalan Ferry Port in Nusa Penida, and Bias Munjul Ferry Port in Nusa Ceningan,” said Indonesia’s Minister of Transportation Budi Karya Sumadi in Jakarta, Thursday (19/1/2023).

Meanwhile, in the air sector, it is still possible for Ngurah Rai Airport to be developed significantly, especially as the airport is becoming the busiest airport managed by PT Angkasa Pura I (AP I).

The growth of aircraft passengers at Ngurah Rai Airport both domestically and internationally in 2022 was 12.5-million passengers, a significant increase of 231-percent compared to 2021 of 3.7-million passengers, say Tribun Bali.

“Seeing the trend of increasing passenger and aircraft movements, Ngurah Rai Airport will expand its capacity to 35-million passengers/ year, or three times the current capacity,” added the Minister of Transportation.

With Emirates Airlines planning to operate the Airbus A380 Wide Body aircraft in mid-2023, it is necessary to increase capacity such as extending the runway, developing terminals and aprons so that the services provided are better.

Meanwhile, Spokesperson for the Ministry of Transportation, Adita Irawati said that the Ministry of Transportation continues to be committed to increasing connectivity in the Province of Bali, by connecting surrounding areas such as Lombok and Banyuwangi, in order to support the tourism sector which is the main sector driving economic growth for people in Bali and its surroundings.

Tribun Bali also suggest that a more comprehensive regional development across all modes of transport will have a greater impact on advancing tourism than a building a new airport, plans for which still appear to be stalled.
