Jakarta’s 498th Anniversary: Free Rides, Tax Relief, and Entertainment Await

The Jakarta Provincial Government (Pemprov DKI) has announced free public transportation for a full day on June 22, 2025, in celebration of the capital’s 498th anniversary. Residents and visitors will be able to enjoy complimentary rides on MRT Jakarta, LRT Jakarta, and TransJakarta buses.

Governor Pramono Anung confirmed that the annual tradition of offering free public transport continues this year. He added that on the same day, Jakarta residents can also benefit from tax penalty waivers for selected regional taxes, provided they make payments on June 22.

“Every Jakarta anniversary, aside from free transportation, we also give what we call tax penalty waivers,” said Governor Pramono Anung on Tuesday, June 10, 2025, as quoted by kompas.com.

However, he clarified that the incentive does not apply to those who haven’t paid taxes at all. “Tax waivers are only granted to those who are willing to pay on that date,” he added.

This initiative aims to ease financial burdens and encourage responsible taxpayer behavior. “We want to offer various incentives on our anniversary, and we’ll announce the full policy details soon,” Pramono stated.

Although specific taxes and the duration of the waiver program have not been revealed yet, the administration plans to share more information in the coming days.

Cultural Festivities and Free Access to Ancol Beach Park

Jakarta’s 498th anniversary celebration is more than just transport incentives. The city will host a wide range of cultural and entertainment events. A major cultural show is scheduled for Sunday, June 29, 2025, across key Car Free Day locations such as Dukuh Atas, Gelora Bung Karno (GBK), and the HI Roundabout Fountain.

Deputy Governor Rano Karno highlighted the positive impact of these activities, “These cultural and artistic events not only promote health but also bring joy to the people,” he said.

Visitors can enjoy traditional Betawi performances, including pencak silat, traditional dances, and music such as gambang kromong, along with iconic local dishes like kerak telor and bir pletok.

Additionally, PT Pembangunan Jaya Ancol Tbk is offering free entry to Ancol Beach Park from June 10 to 20, 2025, as part of the festivities. Visitors can enter the park for free from 5:00 PM to 11:00 PM daily during this period, after making an online reservation through www.ancol.com.

“We are proud to participate in the 498th Jakarta Anniversary by offering free access for the public to enjoy Ancol’s beauty and entertainment. We hope people will use this opportunity and grow even more fond of Jakarta as a global and cultural city,” said Eddy Prastiyo, the company’s Director of Operations on June 11, as quoted by republika.co.id.

Visitors can also enjoy a 15% discount at select Ancol restaurants, including Resto Ayam Tepi Laut, Kafe Hoax, Beachfood, and Resto Ombak Laut, from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM with a minimum purchase of Rp50,000 before tax.

Citywide Celebration and Main Event on June 22

Jakarta’s anniversary festivities span from April to July 2025 under the theme “Jakarta Rises, Jakarta Creates.” Hundreds of events are scheduled across all regions of the capital, from art exhibitions and tech showcases to international concerts and local culinary festivals.

The main event on June 22 will feature a formal ceremony at Monas, a cultural parade to the HI Roundabout, and a grand pencak silat performance involving 5,000 participants. Later, visitors can enjoy a spectacular multimedia show and fireworks at Ancol’s Ecopark.
