How to Apply for Visa on Arrival Indonesia (VoA) and e-VoA

Travelers visiting Indonesia for tourism, business, or short social visits can enter the country using a Visa on Arrival Indonesia (VoA). To make the process more convenient, Indonesia also provides an Electronic Visa on Arrival (e-VoA) that can be applied for online before departure. This step-by-step guide explains how to apply, the requirements, and important details to avoid mistakes.

Step 1: Understand Visa on Arrival Indonesia

The Visa on Arrival is a temporary entry permit issued to foreigners upon arrival in Indonesia. It is valid for 30 days and can be extended once for another 30 days. Travelers applying at the airport must prepare the required documents and pay the visa fee before immigration officers place a visa sticker on their passport.
For a faster process, visitors can apply in advance using the e-VoA system, which allows them to enter Indonesia without queueing for payment at the airport.

Step 2: Prepare the Requirements

Before applying for an e-VoA, make sure the following documents and details are ready:

  • A valid passport with at least six months remaining validity
  • A passport-size photo in JPG, JPEG, or PNG format
  • An active email address
  • A valid credit card (MasterCard, Visa, or JCB) for payment

Step 3: Apply Online via e-VoA

To apply for an Electronic Visa on Arrival, follow these instructions:

  1. Visit the official immigration website: molina.imigrasi.go.id
  2. Select the e-VoA application menu and complete the online form accurately
  3. Upload your passport biodata page and passport photo in the required formats
  4. Proceed to the payment page and enter your card details
  5. Wait for confirmation and verification from immigration authorities
  6. Once approved, the e-VoA will be sent to your registered email
  7. Print the e-VoA and bring it when traveling to Indonesia

At the airport, immigration officers will scan the QR code on the e-VoA and attach the visa sticker to your passport.

Step 4: Apply Early to Avoid Delays

While the e-VoA process is generally quick, delays may occur during the payment stage if the card information is incorrect, expired, or if there are outstanding bills. To avoid such risks, applicants should complete the process before traveling rather than applying during transit.

Step 5: Check Your Application Carefully

Many applications are rejected because of incorrect file formats. For example, the passport biodata page must be uploaded as an image file, not a PDF. Double-checking all uploaded documents and ensuring payment details are valid will speed up approval.

The Visa on Arrival Indonesia and e-VoA offer simple, flexible options for foreigners to enter the country legally. Preparing documents in advance, applying early, and following the correct procedure ensures a smooth entry process. Travelers can avoid common mistakes and focus on enjoying Indonesia’s culture, landscapes, and hospitality without visa-related worries.
