Electrify Jakarta: 2025 Formula E-Prix

Jakarta gears up for its third Formula E race on 21 June 2025 at the Jakarta International E-Prix Circuit (JIEC) in Ancol, North jakarta. Returning after a one-year hiatus amid election scheduling conflicts.

Event Details

It’s a 2.37 km track designed with a unique local twist: its layout inspired by kuda lumping, a traditional Indonesian dance symbolizing strength and agility.

There are 18 turns, a long straight for high-speed duels, plus tricky corners that’ll test every driver’s reflexes. Expect thrilling overtakes, bold braking moves, and edge-of-your-seat action, especially in the final tight sections near the finish line. Now 90% complete after a full-site “management walkthrough” on 4 June, race officials confirmed that only minor touch-ups (such as track painting) remain before final FIA approval.

Ananda Mikola (Waketum IMI dan Steering Committee Formula E Jakarta), during a press site visit and media briefing at the Ancol circuit, 4 June 2025:

“Overall, we’re ready, just a few parts still need to be repainted.”

Off the track, organizers are putting together a full-on festival atmosphere. Think: live music, tech showcases, racing sims, food stalls, and sustainability exhibits all wrapped into a vibrant “E-Village” fan zone. Headlining the entertainment sector are acts like JKT48, Maliq & D’Essentials, Tipe-X, and DJS Dipha Barus, Patricia Schuldtz, and DJ Una

Public Engagement & Preparatory Moves

Jakarta is gearing up with citywide buzz before race day:

  • Car Free Day activations on Sudirman-Thamrin (1, 8, & 15 June) featuring the Gen3 Evo show car, interactive zones, ticket giveaways, and sustainability talks.
  • Local collaboration between Jakarta Propertindo (Jakpro) and the Ministry of Youth & Sports ensures the race prep is on track, from logistics to green infrastructure.

What Sets Jakarta Apart

Jakarta isn’t just another stop on the calendar, it brings its own energy and meaning to the world of electric racing. Here’s why it stands out.

  • Southeast Asia’s Only Host City: Jakarta is the only formula E race in the region, putting Indonesia front and center on the global motorsport map.
  • Debut of Gen3 Evo in Indonesia: 2025 is the first time Jakarta will see the Gen3 Evo cars in action. Sleeker, faster, and more powerful.

Pramono Anung Wibowo (Acting Governor of DKI Jakarta), during a public statement at a Car Free Day activation in Jakarta (2 June 2025):

“The Jakarta E-Prix 2025 will feature the third-generation Evolution electric race cars, which are claimed to be twice as fast as Formula 1. The presence of these electric race cars will surely be a major draw for fans.”

  • Strong Sustainability Message: hosting a zero-emission race in a growing megacity shows that Jakarta is committed to innovation and green living. It’s about racing, but also about the future.

Jakarta’s 2025 E-Prix goes beyond high-speed racing, it’s a testament to urban sustainability, technology integration, and cultural pride. With near-complete facilities, robust spectator demand, and a blend of sport and entertainment, this June 21 spectacle is poised to showcase Jakarta’s ambition as a green, global city.
