BTN Jakarta International Marathon 2025 Set for June 29

The BTN Jakarta International Marathon (JAKIM), a prestigious international running event, is returning to the streets of the capital. Scheduled for June 29, 2025, this year’s marathon promises to be the biggest yet, thanks to a collaboration between PT Bank Tabungan Negara (BTN) and the Jakarta Provincial Government.

Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung announced that the number of participants is expected to double compared to last year. “This year, the number of participants has doubled to 30,000 from 51 countries. What’s remarkable is that 600 of them are foreign runners,” said Pramono during a press conference at Jakarta City Hall on Monday, April 14, 2025, as quoted by Liputan6.com.

Pramono emphasized that the surge in participation reflects Jakarta’s rising appeal as a destination for international sporting events. He has directed his team to prepare thoroughly for the marathon, ensuring every detail—no matter how small—is accounted for, including clean water supply and course conditions.

“We are preparing thoroughly. Nothing should be lacking, even the smallest things. We’ve considered everything, down to the turns on the route to ensure they don’t disrupt the runners. We’re also addressing water supply and other logistics,” he said.

Confident in the success of this year’s event, Pramono expressed hope that by 2027—when Jakarta celebrates its 500th anniversary—the city could host a platinum-level marathon. He also believes that the 2025 Jakarta International Marathon will significantly boost the local economy, especially for small and medium enterprises (SMEs), as thousands of visitors are expected to arrive from across Indonesia and abroad.

“With 30,000 people coming to Jakarta—not including their families, friends, and supporters—this will certainly have a major economic impact, especially for SMEs,” he noted.

Pramono also called on the public to help promote the marathon by sharing content on social media. He hopes JAKIM can eventually reach the popularity of global marathons like Berlin or New York City.

“Before June 29, I encourage everyone with social media to help create a buzz around this event. Jakarta is truly ready to welcome participants and spectators to the Jakarta International Marathon,” he said, as quoted by Kompas.com.

BTN President Director Nixon LP Napitupulu echoed this sentiment, stating that the marathon is more than just a fun event. “There’s an economic element, entertainment and fun, but most importantly, we want to educate the people of Jakarta on leading a healthier lifestyle,” Nixon explained.

Hotel Demand in Central Jakarta Surges

The marathon is also expected to drive hotel bookings in Jakarta’s main business districts. “There will be economic impact. Last year, hotel occupancy along the Sudirman-Thamrin corridor reached 15,000 rooms. This year, rooms are already hard to find. We’ll likely need to extend accommodation options to surrounding areas,” said Nixon.

New Route Announced for 2025

According to Race Director of IM Road Runner, Satrio Guardian, this year’s route has been slightly altered while maintaining the same start and finish lines.

“The start remains at the Northwest Corner of Monas. The main change is that we’ll now head toward Jalan Dr. Satrio, avoiding heavily populated residential areas in North Jakarta. We want to minimize disruption for local residents,” Satrio stated.

He also confirmed the removal of the section passing the Presidential Palace to reduce potential risks. “We’ve eliminated the route by the Palace to prevent any unnecessary risks,” he added.

All tickets for the 2025 BTN Jakarta International Marathon have already sold out. The event features three race categories: the full Marathon (42.195 km), Half Marathon (21.0975 km), and a 10K run.
