Indonesia’s Transportation Minister, Budi Karya Sumadi, said in a statement on Saturday (13/4/24,) that the construction of the country’s longest elevated railway at Joglo intersection in Solo, Central Java, is on schedule to be completed by September 2024, according to reporting from Antara News.
“Based on our review, the construction has been making the expected progress. God Willing, all works will be complete in September,” he said after inspecting the railway’s development, adding that the project is a part of the development of Solo-Semarang double tracks Phase I.
According to the ministry’s website, the elevated railway will stretch 1.8 kilometers, making it the longest of its kind in the country and is expected to help address traffic congestion at a nearby level crossing, where seven roads meet, causing long delays.
The minister stressed that the government is constructing the elevated railway with a design that displays the icons of the city of Solo, such as Sidomukti Batik, Klewer Market, and the Keraton (royal palace), report Antara News.
Head of the Traffic Corps (Korlantas) of the National Police (Polri), Inspector General Aan Suhanan, who was also present during the inspection, said that the Joglo intersection is prone to both traffic congestion and accidents and the “elevated railway serves as a solution to traffic congestion at the Joglo intersection and is expected to elevate the level of traffic safety by replacing the level crossing,” according to Antara News.
