Christmas and New Year Holidays, KAI Prepares 44.7 Million Tickets

PT Kereta Api Indonesia Group has allocated 44,754,280 train tickets to accommodate the surge in passengers expected during the Christmas and New Year holiday season, which runs from December 19, 2024, to January 5, 2025.

The initiative aims to ensure passengers experience safe, smooth, and comfortable travel during this busy period.

“The KAI Group has prepared 44,754,280 seats,” said Anne Purba, Vice President of Public Relations at KAI, during a press conference in Jakarta on Sunday, December 1, 2024, as reported by RRI.co.id.

She added that the seats include:

  • 3,572,588 seats for KAI trains
  • 35,407,300 seats for KAI Commuter
  • 4,142,520 seats for LRT Jabodebek
  • 588,304 seats for LRT in South Sumatra
  • 487,728 seats for KAI Airport trains
  • 29,160 seats for Makassar–Parepare trains
  • 519,264 seats for KCIC Whoosh trains

Total Train Services and Sold Tickets

KAI Group will operate 40,782 train trips during the holiday season. These include:

  • 7,328 trips managed by KAI
  • 23,204 trips by CommuterTrain
  • 1,872 trips by Airport Trains
  • 5,598 trips for LRT Jakarta Bogor Tangerang Bekasi
  • 1,772 trips for LRT South Sumatra
  • 108 trips for Makassar–Parepare trains
  • 864 trips for Whoosh Trains to Bandung, West Java

As of December 1, 2024, 613,079 tickets for medium- and long-distance trips (22.13% of the available 2,770,864 seats) have already been sold for journeys between December 19, 2024, and January 5, 2025.

The highest outbound ticket sales were recorded on December 21, 2024, with 46,887 tickets sold, while the peak return traffic is expected on December 29, 2024, with 45,425 tickets sold.

Jakarta Operations: Over 190,000 Tickets Sold

Manager of Public Relations for KAI Daop 1 Jakarta, Ixfan Hendriwintoko, shared that 190,511 tickets for departures from Gambir and Pasar Senen Stations have been sold as of December 1, 2024. Ticket sales opened 45 days before departure, starting November 3, 2024, as reported by BeritaTrans.com.

He noted that 1,065 train trips (59 per day) are planned during the holiday season, with 584,549 seats available for medium- and long-distance trains.

Currently, an average of 10,584 seats per day have been sold, representing a 33% occupancy rate.

“We encourage passengers to secure their tickets early through the Access by KAI app or official partners,” he added.

Information on additional train services will be announced soon, in accordance with the 2024/2025 Holiday Transportation Operation Plan.

Top 10 Most-Booked Trains for December 19, 2024 – January 5, 2025

According to Anne Purba, the most popular trains during the holiday period are:

  1. Airlangga Train (KA 235): 21,363 passengers (Surabaya Pasar Turi – Pasar Senen)
  2. Airlangga Train (KA 236B): 20,775 passengers (Pasar Senen – Surabaya Pasar Turi)
  3. Bengawan Train (KA 246A): 19,290 passengers (Pasar Senen – Purwosari)
  4. Bengawan Train (KA 245): 19,122 passengers (Purwosari – Pasar Senen)
  5. Kahuripan Train (KA 237): 15,618 passengers (Blitar – Kiaracondong)
  6. Sri Tanjung Train (KA 242): 15,269 passengers (Ketapang – Lempuyangan)
  7. Sri Tanjung Train (KA 241): 14,648 passengers (Lempuyangan – Ketapang)
  8. Kahuripan Train (KA 238): 14,592 passengers (Kiaracondong – Blitar)
  9. Probowangi Train (KA 266): 11,830 passengers (Ketapang – Surabaya Gubeng)
  10. Serayu Train (KA 251): 11,721 passengers (Purwokerto – Pasar Senen)

Ridwan is one of Indonesia’s top executives with a long and illustrious career in the financial world. Per is the Managing Director of the Seven Stones Indonesia (SSI) Jakarta office and has more than 25-years’ experience in Indonesia, China, and Western Europe.
