According to reporting from Antara News, Indonesia’s Directorate General of Immigration at the Law and Human Rights Ministry has said that it will evaluate the issuance of investor visas for foreign nationals in Indonesia.
“We will evaluate the issuance of the investor visa, the processing of which also involves other parties, namely the Ministry of Investment/ Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM),” Director General of Immigration Silmi Salim said here on Wednesday.
According to him, the evaluation will be aimed at improving policies related to investor visas to support the Indonesian economy.
“We must improve the policies for anyone through the right opportunities and purposes,” he said.
For the evaluation, he announced that his side will cooperate with state-owned enterprises (SOEs/ BUMN) to ensure that policies for foreign investors are in accordance with the applicable regulations, report Antara News.
“I also ask the officials to coordinate with other agencies on improving the investor visa policy so that it can be better and toward the desired quality,” he said.
The proposed changes to the investor visa policy will be submitted to President Jokowi, who will then give his decision, say Antara News.
“After getting the directives from Mr. President, we will follow up with the revision of Government Regulation No. 31 of 2013 (on Immigration),” he said.
Earlier, Minister of Law and Human Rights Yasonna Laoly asked the Directorate General of Immigration to prepare a “golden visa policy” in Indonesia to attract foreign investors to develop businesses in the country.
“Following up on President Jokowi’s directive to immediately prepare a golden visa policy in Indonesia by conducting intensive communication with all relevant ministries, agencies, and stakeholders,” he said on January 26, 2023.
Investments are expected to boost economic growth and open wider job opportunities, he added.
Laoly said that the golden visa policy should be implemented after conducting careful research and comparing it with other countries
