The official website of the President of The Republic of Indonesia is reporting on the arrival of Japanese Emperor Hironomyya Naruhito and Empress Masako who landed at Soekarno Hatta International Airport on Saturday afternoon, June 17 2023.
During his visit, the Emperor and Empress are scheduled to carry out a number of activities, the main one being meeting with President Joko Widodo on Monday, 19 June 2023. Apart from that, Emperor Naruhito is also scheduled to visit a number of other places such as the Lebak Bulus MRT Depot, Pluit Reservoir Pump Station, and to visit Borobudur Temple, in Central Java.
Quoting a press release from the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida said in his statement that Indonesia had long invited the Emperor of Japan to visit Indonesia, the last time being during President Joko Widodo’s visit to Tokyo, Japan in July 2022.
“I’m sure this visit will further strengthen friendly relations and also good cooperation with Indonesia, and I feel extraordinary happiness with the Japanese people,” he said.
This visit is Emperor Hironomyya Naruhito’s first visit to Indonesia since being crowned as the 126th Emperor of Japan in 2019. The Emperor and Empress will be in Indonesia for seven days and will return to Tokyo, Japan, on Friday, 23 June 2023.
The Emperor and Empress of Japan were welcomed by Minister of Public Works and Public Housing Basuki Hadimuljono, the Japanese Ambassador to Indonesia Kanasugi Kenji, and the Indonesian Ambassador to Japan Heri Akhmadi.
