The number of foreign visitors to Indonesia is on the rise according to reporting from Tempo and Antara News, who cite figures from the Indonesian Statistics Agency (BPS), saying that there has been an increase of more than 500-percent Year on Year (YoY) in January.
Pudji Ismartini, BPS Deputy for Distribution and Service Statistics, said in a recent online presentation that 735,950-foreign tourists visited Indonesia in January 2023, which was actually a drop of 17.78-percent compared to the previous month (December 2022), but if we look at the Year-on-Year (YoY) numbers there has been a 503.34-percent increase.
Pudji said that in January 2023, 620,900-foreign tourists entered Indonesia through main ports of entry while the remaining 115,000 entered through border gates. She explained that international arrivals were dominated by Malaysians who accounted for 15.26-percent, followed by Australians (13.46-percent), Singaporeans (13.05-percent), Timor Leste (9.57-percent), and Indians (4.46-percent.)
