Indosat Launches 5G in Bali

Investor Daily along with local newswires are reporting that Indosat, also known as Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison (IOH), launched 5G cellular services in Bali to support the agenda of the G20 Presidency and Indonesia’s digital transformation.

Vikram Sinha, President Director & CEO of Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison, said the company is committed to playing an important role in the 5G revolution to support Indonesia’s transformation agenda. “We are pleased to be able to offer 5G services in Bali. This launch is also a form of our support for the Government of Indonesia as the host of the G20 Presidency, as well as supporting the economic recovery of Bali,” he said, in a virtual press conference on Wednesday.

He also said that the launch of 5G IOH would not have happened without the cooperation and support of various parties, including the Ministry of Communication and Information (Kemenkominfo) and the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy.

Sandiaga Uno, the Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy, also expressed his appreciation to IOH. This is because the company is one of the leading telecommunications companies that provides 5G services and plays a role in the success of the 17th G20 Summit in Bali in November 2022. “I hope that, in the future, Indosat Ooredoo Hutchinson can continue to develop 5G services in various destinations in Indonesia, especially other super priority and superior tourism destinations,” he said.

Meanwhile, at the launch of the 5G service, IOH also presented several use cases for the use of 5G technology in several sectors relevant to the recovery of Bali, such as the tourism, agriculture, health, urban planning, and MSME sectors.

Johnny G Plate, Minister of Communication and Information Technology also appreciated IOH’s consistency in supporting Indonesia’s digital transformation agenda. He said the Ministry has three priority issues in the G20 Presidency, namely post-Covid-19 recovery and connectivity, digital literacy and digital skills, and cross-border data flows. “We believe that 5G technology can accelerate the realization of all these priorities,” he said.

In addition to launching 5G services, IOH is collaborating with several institutions to support the digitalization of Bali. The cooperation agreement (PKS) was signed by IOH Chief Business Officer Bayu Hanantasena with representatives of Udayana University.

In addition, the company signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for the Tri Dharma of Higher Education with the Indonesian Institute of Business and Technology (INSTIKI) and the Bali State Polytechnic (PNB).

Indosat Business also signed an MoU with the Bali Regional Development Bank for the digital transformation of financial services.

IOH also presented a special Travel On product that will make it easier for foreign tourists and domestic tourists to enjoy internet, telephone, and SMS services while exploring Indonesia with a stable connection.
