According to an article published by Editionna, Coordinating Minister for the Economy Airlangga Hartarto brought the U.S. Ambassador to Indonesia Sung Y. Kim and the Canadian Ambassador to Indonesia Nadia Burger to Batam, to see possible investment potential for both American and Canadian companies. The meeting discussed proposals for cooperation in the development of renewable energy sources.
Editonnia say that the relationship between America and Batam has been strengthened since the presence of the U.S. company Mc Dermott in Batam since 1970.
“I have spoken with U.S. and Canadian companies as well as investors, they are very enthusiastic about what I present about Batam and the SEZ (SEZ) in it,” said Sung Y Kim in a written statement on Friday, November 4, say Editionna.
In addition to clean energy, various project proposals in the supply chain scheme include semiconductors, health industry development, and data center development.
“The conducive investment climate here, the strategic location and the experience and support from the Indonesian government and BP Batam, make me really hope that the connections that have been established so far can continue to work to achieve the best opportunity together,” explained Sung Y. Kim.
The Coordinating Minister for the Economy also invited Canadian Ambassador Nadia Burger to directly review the SEZ readiness in Batam as a showcase that Indonesia is ready to accept investment for the development of the semiconductor industry, digital talent, and other sectors.
Currently Canada is known as the largest developer of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and semiconductor programming in the world. As well as having education and training programs in these fields.
Seeing the huge potential that exists in Canada, the Coordinating Minister for the Economy hopes that Canada can work together in increasing Indonesia’s digital talent capacity, say Editionna.
“This meeting shows the strong connection between the U.S., Canada and Batam, Indonesia. We certainly hope to establish cooperation in various fields in the business relationship of these three relationships,” said Nadia Burger.
The group then continued their visit to PT. Satnusa Persada, supplier of printed circuit boards and assembling of mechanical parts and the best manufacture of electronic components with one of the export products of smartphones and CHIPS.
